When I first found McAfee Site Advisor, I thought it was a cool idea. And when I found that they supported Firefox, I was in. It worked well according to my expectations for a good long time. Then, a few months back, some "update" they issued caused the Site Advisor software to leech itself into Internet Explorer (IE), even though I had never used it in IE before, and did not want to. I don't remember being asked to allow this change to take place. I was less than thrilled, and stopped using the software immediately, as I no longer trust the program to "stay where I put it", which was in Firefox ONLY. What kind of software does something you dont' expect, and when you least expect? Sounds like the kind of software I was using it to guard against. Hmmm. For people that don't mind this behavior, I still recommend its functionality. But this isn't the only product out there that does the same thing. Look around before settling on this one. 20695

SiteAdvisor will incorrectly flag some websites with a caution or warning. This happens because their crawler only actually visits websites in question occasionally, with the period between visits being up to a year. Once the SiteAdvisor crawler first visits a site and determines there is a problem, they do not go back for, as just mentioned, up to a year later. Thus sites that correct problems are still flagged to McAfee customers as "dangerous" sites, even though they are not. This long latency in following up to see if sites have been fixed can have the effect of destroying a website's credibility. In this sense, SiteAdvisor could be thought of as malware, particularly because McAfee makes no attempt to contact the affected site, nor do they provide a straightforward mechanism for correcting errors. 20591

It used to be good, but it is becoming increasingly bloated. Recommended. Not foolproof, but none of the antiviruses are. It works better than the other tools like this in the market. 20527

While SA is decent, I would like to offer another opinion about NOT worrying about how you surf. SA is NOT fool proof, NOT 100% and is only a good tool up to a certain point. This is no different than any bad site protection software except that I do feel SA does a much better job than others. I found SA to be more thorough and updated than others. I would still not think yourself worry free when using it or ANY others and learning decent surfing habits is the best protection along with SA. 20091

This free program from McAfee works in IE and FF. It shows you while you search which sites are safe, and which are dangerous, hoaxes, or contain spyware/adware/viruses. No matter what level computer user you are, you NEED this program. It will warn you through simple colors (yellow, red, green) which sites are safe, and which are scams. Once you use it, you'll be shocked the next time you Google Search on a PC without it...which links are safe to click on?! Download this NOW. 17161

Are you worried about which web sites have potential virus scans? Do you surf on the web reluctantly and afraid of "stepping" on a hacker web? If so, this FREE program is for you. It warns you in a subtle way using color codes and mouse over information about each web site. RED is BAD, Green is GOOD, etc.
I love this handy and very necessary program! 15936

This is a nice program that takes and does what it says it does but, on the other hand it is a big memory eater and really chews up your system resources. But the program does well on giving you info on different web sites out there, and if it was not for the fact that took so much memory i'd still be using it. 15110

McAfee is the most trusted software. It's easy to use and Dependable. If there is a web-site that is not tested yet, you can turn it in to get tested. If you hit next to continue on surfing, the colored bubbles go away. What I do is hit the refresh button and they all come back. This is the best software to have because it keeps you safe from the really bad web-sites. I found it really easy to use and interesting on the information it gives you before you click on the web-site. 14618

This is a great way of identifying web sites which could cause a security risk. It's simple to use and is ideal for keeping novice (and expert) users out of trouble. A few more options such as the ability to switch off the information bubbles would be useful but this is a fantastic piece of kit none the less. 14354

I installed it and my eyes opened. No more worries for dangerous hostiles sites. Site Advisor is there, informing me for every single site. Not just "its OK" or "Not OK", but with details for how dangerous is and extensive details, why its dangerous, so I can judge for myself.
I can't imagine web browsing, or Googling without it (specially for no security gurus).
Thanks! 14131

If you are ever researching or just browsing the Internet for fun you know that the web introduces risks. The "SiteAdvisor" advises you to the content of the web pages you visit. Very handy to avoid spam, viruses, and spyware/adware. 13530

Why only IE? What about Firefox and other browsers?
Or are they considered immune against spyware, adware, spam, viruses, browser-based attacks and phishing? [Editor: A Firefox version is available also, use our search engine] 13385

This is in my humble opinion, a must have software for anyone to use, and rely on. While not all of the sites I visit are listed, they will at some point be on that list, because people cared enough to use it as much as I have. Using this one will only make it better for everyone. I enjoy being able to search, and having the advisor ratings to go by, determining which site I will visit and which ones I will want to avoid. Research suddenly becomes much easier and a whole lot safer. This is a good one. 12105

My general opinion about Siteadvisor - it's ok for what it is doing. But unfortunately it uses too much memory and the information it gives about websites is very very little. It even doesn't show who owns the domain, which is the major indicator.
Callerid gives this info right on their toolbar, and you know who is behind the website. 11847

The program is excellent for weeding out malicious web sites along with giving the user relevant information about the sites. The program seemed very stable and gave a very clean install and uninstall. The reason for the uninstall is because of the memory usage that the program took up which I thought was excessive. At this time my memory requirements are all reserved for my security programs otherwise I would still be using this program. 11629

This is what people needed along with scanners like spybot and adaware, to keep from getting the stuff in the first place. So many computers I fix for people and they ask me how to recognize spyware or "how did I get that?", and it's so hard to explain to them what NOT to do on the web. This app is going on all my family's pc's and I am telling everyone who get's knocked out by malware about it! This is perfect! 11572
