Blocks some processes... 1/8/2009 07:20:00

The Firewall blocks some processes, even though I have enabled them. The securing features may be perfect but in general the program is unusable for me, because of wrong blockings. 20402

Still looking... 5/25/2007 20:12:00

I was and still am looking for a firewall that will work with Win 98. At first, it was a little challenging to setup. After a while, I had it up and running. Receiving messages about scan ports and all. Then, I went to turn my computer off. Windows would not shutdown. I had to push the power button to shut off the computer. Finally, I discovered that the firewall was stating that my computer was trying to do an illegal act. When I turned the firewall off, I was able to log off of my computer. I guess if you don't mine turning off you firewall each time you want to turn off your computer, it is fine. I am looking for something that is a little bit more automatic though. 16522

Blinded by science... 11/19/2006 10:41:00

Having installed NetVeda v3.6 on my PC, I found it difficult to configure for the independent PC user. This appears to be my experience with various firewalls and am surprised how little consideration this factor seems to receive from developers. So, once again, I found myself 'blinded by science' in my earnest attempts to configure a firewall. I could not even establish whether it was actually functioning or not! I would have thought the system tray icon would have intermittently 'flashed' or something to indicate inbound/outbound traffic as some other firewalls do! At the very least, I then know that it is alive! I do not doubt the credibility, performance or protection value of this software, just wish, somehow, the configuration could be expressed more clearly. Some kind of wizard or something? I don't know I'm not a developer! I can recommend but think you have to know more than I do about ports etc. to configure it satisfactorily. 14774

I've been looking to replace the excellent Zone Alarm for a while now due to it's high usage of system resources and tried out this excellent free firewall. I'm glad I did. I have a faster running PC as a result. When you first install the software it will automatically find your network adapters. Just put a tick in the boxes and for peace of mind enable the alerts. Did a check on the 'Shields Up' site, passed with flying colours. Gave a pure stealth rating. The interface is fairly basic, but it's the performance that matters and the protection it gives. Try it, you won't regret it. An excellent alternative to Zone Alarm if you have a lower spec PC. 13842

Zone Alarm is no longer supporting Win 98, which I am still using on an older laptop. I was looking for a good freeware firewall to replace it. Many of the freeware firewalls do not support Win98, and the ones I tried did not offer updates. NetVeda (so far) has really fit the bill. It was easy to configure and has made me feel secure even with my older OS. If you have kids, it also offers what appears to be a comprehensive filtering system that you can set to your preferences. 13397

Installed it over LookNStop. Working fine... vs another (just deinstalled) which hosed the dialup connection... www. firewallleaktester. com has info which prompted the dual-firewall setup (learned that at least FreeBSD can run 2 firewalls simultaneously, so figured why not win98?? ) 11866

This firewall does not perform well against "Shields Up". Port 1025 wide open. This firewall was tested as a replacement for Sygate Personal Firewall. It has a busy user interface, lots of services listed but no explanation for use (single computer/user or network/multi-user). User manual has screenshots but no examples or explanations for use. Individual User and Computer settings are a good idea for a home network. This is the only good features I see for this firewall. 11710

I installed 3 firewalls at a time -- xp firewall, sygate personal and netveda. The netveda responses first on almost all the network accesses. And both netveda and sygate response more correctly than xp firewall. The two agree to each other. The program has lots of features that I did not have time to figure out. Seems somewhat powerful than sygate, however, after my firefox updated, I can't browse the internet (firefox not start up response after I double click). After uninstall netveda everything is fine. 11306

A great firewall.I have been testing several freeware firewalls and this has to rank up there or succeed any of the more popular freebie firewalls.Passed all port scans from shields up.Its great to know that there are some good guys out there yet that want to offer products like these at no cost.Another great aspect of this firewall is it doesnt eat up huge system resources like some others i've tried.Configuring it to allow other pc's to access your pc (using various chat programs)is a little tricky, but in my view it's a lot better trying to figure out how to allow other pc's to have access, rather than trying to figure out how to deny access.Great work guys!keep it up! 10753

After testing out all the major and some minor free firewall programs, I would have to say that this one is the most thorough and competent. It is not necessarily the easiest to configure but for protection it is superior over the others. I suspect it is written towards commercial clients which is a testimonial to how powerful and effective it really is. 10419

This firewall seems to do the best job of the freebees. Ad blocking, E-mail attach scanning and many other features. Easy setup too. Did a security test on it along with anti-vir(great program) and(spybot)also good. These three together got a really good rating. 9477

NetVeda safety Net. After having doubts about my SP2 firewalls ability to protect my computer . I decided to try a freeware firewall over the past three months I have tried at least 14 different firewalls. Some really good some really average. And then I decided to try NetVeda Safety.Net and I have to say this firewall is highly underrated it is without a doubt the best firewall I have used. You can configure every aspect of it. I doesnt have any problems associated with it and is easy to install and uninstall and integrates and is recognized by SP2 security center nothing has got through no viruses it even stops adds, And blocks unwanted ports I highly recommend this product to anybody and I am grateful for the NetVeda company for offering it as freeware and grateful to Snapfiles for advertising this product and for a virus free site. 8993
