Top notch!... 3/31/2007 09:06:00

This is an exceptional program, and has all you need to lock down your computer. But it does not fit into the category of "products you can give to anybody." There are no wizards or scripts that new computer users can breeze through, nor are there any glad-handling avatars that tell you things you need to know when demands for direction are put to you. It is very easy to block essential system processes from carrying out tasks they must accomplish by a single mouse click. Thus, I do not recommend it to new computer users, or persons who do not possess a clear understanding of how applications and devices interact with the Internet, and each other. For those willing to learn from their mistakes, those that need a firewall capable of dealing with high traffic activities such as eMule file-sharing, and expert users alike, JPF is top notch and perfect for your home setup. 16054

Volatile, fragile, unstable - a nightmare!... 11/17/2006 15:52:00

My very limited and exasperating experience of Jetico Personal Firewall, proved to be a complete and utter nightmare. From reviews I knew it wasn't going to be a 'piece of cake' and would be difficult to configure but felt I could rise to the challenge! However, from the outset, it proved enormously difficult to fathom and was simply left dumbfounded. Not only that but during the configuring process and while connected to the Internet, endeavoring to put it through a Firewall test, JPF consistently kept 'tripping out' my PC which was infuriating and this would, inevitably, give rise to the dreaded 'Blue Screen' in all its repetitive glory! :( I salute anybody who has managed to tame this "beast" and feel that, in view of my own experience, could not honestly recommend it. However, I do not doubt the integrity of the program and believe it does all it claims to but, evidently, not on my PC! Good luck to you if you want to give it a go! 14759

Probably the best free firewall protection.... 10/6/2006 08:05:00

I've always said that a good program is one that is small but works well. This is one of them. For footprint and system resource usage it is anywhere from 50 to 75% less than most other firewalls and does the job as well or better. However it is not the most attractive nor easiest to initially work with and it does require some understanding of the operating system. 14330

Invest some time for a real winner... 8/24/2006 00:03:00

This does take a little more work to understand than other firewalls. However with a little patience to understand it it outperforms all others I have tried (about 5 in the last week). It passes all Sygate tests, is highest rated by firewallleaktester.com. It is also small, both on disk and in memory, and gives very good control over your system. Learning is not a big hassle, though the first session does call for a lot of decisions. They do warn you either choose "autosave" as an option or be sure to save your changes. There are places I could argue with the GUI, and a few things that look to me like bugs (which might not if the help were more complete), but in terms of the quality of the results this looks like a winner. I have tried several over the last week but this is the one I am keeping. 13813

I found this software painful to use. Way too many pop ups, and when I rebooted it asked me the same learning questions again ! The interface is not intuitive. It did however pass some of the firewall tests I put it through. 13574

If you know how to install this program better times will come. Best part of the program is that it helps you find out spyware/dialers you never knew there exists. (This beats other firewalls in that part) 12680

I reinstalled this and, after downloading the helpfile from the Jetico website, found it quite easy to set up. It would be hard to create a firewall to suit everyone "out of the box" unless it was large and expensive. This is very cheap! 11183

Not that great... 5/12/2005 18:35:00

Wouldn't hold settings when closing, about every 5th or 6th bootup it says it needs to be reinstalled due to corrupt files. Find ... to be a much better alternative. 8807

I love Jetico, as a company, very much; I'm a long-time user of their other products, and they have great support. I gave Jetico Personal Firewall a try, but I just can't use it. It provides well-rounded protection, but the prompts are nonstop. You get at least two alerts for every application that connects out. The rules dialogs are the least user-friendly I've ever seen, with the drop-down menus and trees that need to be manipulated individually. And while you can just click "OK" over and over, what you'll end up with after updating software are dead references in your ruleset. That's because JPF doesn't detect a changed application and say "The EXE changed; allow the changed version to connect?", but rather, it adds entirely new rules--and leaves the old ones in place. Maybe I'm too obsessive, but I want everything in my ruleset to be working and accurate. And the maintenance and organization was a real nightmare.  7381

Yes, it's a free Winner! It's doing an excelent job in blocking ALL vulnerability tests from http://www.firewallleaktester.com On the other hand it may be annoing until you set it up and teach him what to allow and what to block, but here's a trade off: you won't get a good protection with some "out-of-the-box" default settings! So spend your time to configure this baby and it will pay later. No problems at all on Win2K and WinXP pro. A must have on your system... 6820

Once I installed this firewall, it had a lot of problems. A large part was that, when you would click on the pop up message screens for programs that wanted to access. It wouldn't go through right away, or not at all. Plus it slowed down the computer processing so much. I would not recommend this to anyone. 5449
