You're a tech and you get a call from a geologist out in the field with an infected laptop, she has some critical work to finish up and a very non-understanding employer. you have to drive to the location and act quickly without fumbling thru a bunch of discs for a full featured av suite and it's installation process. so you pop in your usb stick, your portable apps menu starts promptly, you give a click to the avast cleaner that is updated regularly by you and you start a scan that reveals a popular loader. another investigation into the win32 folder cross-confirms the findings, so you click for a cleaning process.
job done. as you leave and collect your fee, you recommend a fully featured memory resident av solution and say "you're welcome". 16430

Download the AVAST cleaner BEFORE you need it;
it can sometimes repair broken internet access
and it can repair some other damage caused by
some malware (mostly worms). It has a small
list of malware that it looks for, but it can disinfect and repair. Appropriately named, it is
a CLEANER, not just a scanner. 13298

I was an avid AntiVir user until they introduced V7 and FORCED you to upgrade. Discovered avast! and it is absolutely fantastic. Updates the VDF file very frequently. Best free antivirus program I have found. Get it. 12600

If you have the home edition, you wont need this tool. Avast lets you know if something is attacking you. If your getting download trojans, just watch where, and what your downloading. Norton, "eat your heart out" 10402

If this home edition is a sampling of an advance version, Buy the Advance version. If you can't afford, then why buy MacAfee, Norton or any other overpriced product. This is a very good program and the price fits my budget and I have money to spend on other improvements to my PC. It's Free, quit complaining and figure out what you did wrong if it didn't work for you. 8237

Never had a problem with it.
Considering it is free I won't complain about the interface. 6878

Works too well. It easliy deletes critical system files. Think...hard recovery. I figure it took about 10 hours of work to get my system fully functional after running this program - although I did agree to the deletion of a few files - in hindsight - that were essential to XP. 6870

It took out half of my computer files! I had it scan the entire HardDrive, on the next boot-up right? It then found a lot of trojans, and gave me the option of having them repaired, deleted, or quarantined. I chose to have it repaired. Avast couldn't do it. It took me two days before I could get Windows XP to work!! 6475

I would highly recommend this product to everyone. It is very easy to use and most effective in detecting viruses. The extra features are great if you like to chat online via IM, etc. 5770

This program is so easy to use and does a very good job at protecting and smoothing out the hiccups present in ones PC. It also is constantly updating itself day to day so as to stay present with all possible threats, but downloads are small (25k) and quick even for dial up. Don't pass this one up I've used it for 1 1/2 years and it WORKS. Did I mention that it is FREE. 5111
